Introducing the AT-4A Electrical Generating System from Indigo Electronics. This kit has been expressly engineered to upgrade the Atomic 4 engine alternator system to provide the owner the ability to manage the vessels electrical energy requirements without having to run the engine for extensive periods of time while maintaining the "quality" charging critical to long life of deep cycle batteries

The standard alternator originally supplied with the Atomic 4 is nominally rated for 35 Amps output and is fitted with a "plain vanilla" automotive type voltage regulator. When simply replacing the energy expended to start the engine, this original system is quite adequate. Likewise, providing 12V power for running lights and such with the engine running is well within the capability of the original system. However, if one attempts to recharge a 200 amp hour deep cycle "house" battery which has been discharged to 50%, the original system will have a very hard time replacing the energy. Due to the characteristics of the regulator, the alternator output falls off quickly as the battery voltage rises which means that the engine will have to run for many hours. Battery capacity also decays with each such cycle as this is not the optimum charging scenario for deep cycle batteries.

With the ever increasing loads being imposed on "house" batteries (inverters, refrigeration,electronics) the Indigo AT-4A has been designed to provide 65 amps output at an engine cruising speed of 1600 RPM. The microprocessor controlled regulator is a truly "smart" regulator which provides the optimum charging profile for deep cycles and in combination with the high output alternator, can replace 100 amp hours in less than 3 hours of engine operation.
